We have attended The Minnesota Quilt Show in Duluth, St. Paul and Rochester, but we have yet to include St. Cloud, the host city for 2010. The theme this year is Quilting in the Quarry. Don’t worry, we aren’t going to visit the quarry, but we are going to dig up all the fun we can with a stop at our favorite theatre, a private show with Cherrywood Fabrics, one full day at the quilt show, stops at some of our favorite fabric stores like SR Harris, Aunt Annies, Grubers and Quilted Treasures where we will have a trunk show by Atkinson Designs.

June 17, Thursday, Day 1: The day begins with an early start departing from Des Moines. With expected pickups in route, we begin our Minnesota experience at the Plymouth Playhouse. I always said you should learn something everyday...so today’s lesson “How to Talk Minnesotan.” You will find this invaluable information as we spend three days in “God’s Country!” But before we get started we better have a little lunch first! On our way out of Minneapolis, we’ll try our skills at SR Harris, a warehouse of all kinds of fabrics—one of our favorite stops!

Day 3: Let’s make today a shop-hop day and visit all of those quilt stores we have heard so much about. We start with Aunt Annies Quilts & Silks in Avon, MN, then to Grubers Quilt Shop—we haven’t visited them since they were in the meat market! And then to Quilted Treasures in Rogers, MN. We’ve made special arrangements with Atkinson Design to give us a private trunk show. We should return to Iowa late afternoon.

Day 2: Our bus will pick up at the door and deliver you to the front door of the convention center. Today you experience the MN Quilt Show. This is a judged, guild-show, professionally presented. The vendors are by invitation only—and they know all the good ones! The Munsinger Gardens will be the back drop for our evening event with Linda from Cherrywood Fabrics. Our meal is catered to the park pavilion and then on with the show. Linda says no more learning it’s strictly entertainment tonight as she shares her wit and humor with our group! Dinner and a show—can’t beat that!
